Manchester City’s Phil Foden won this year’s BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award at a ceremony in Liverpool.

The award capped a good year for the seventeen year old who claimed the Golden Ball award for the tournament’s best player at the U17s World Cup in October, scoring twice in the final as England beat Spain 5-2 to lift the coveted trophy.

He also played a key role in England’s run to the final of the UEFA European Under-17 Championships in May.

The Stockport-born midfielder, who has been at City since he was nine, made his Blues debut in November as a second-half substitute in the win over Feyenoord, and then made his full debut against Shakhtar Donetsk two weeks ago, becoming the youngest Englishman to start a game in the Champions League.
