In response to continued high demand, acclaimed tapas restaurant El Gato Negro has announced it is extending its dining offering, rolling out its award-winning tapas menu to ground floor guests.

This move sees an additional 30 covers able to choose from the full main menu featuring 49 modern and traditional Spanish dishes, in addition to the charcuterie and extensive drinks menu previously enjoyed.

To coincide with the expansion, the King Street restaurant has launched a new lunchtime deal for those tight on time. Diners can choose from three tempting tapas including Padron peppers with Halen Mon sea salt, mini Catalan chorizo with Aspall cider and jamon Iberico croquetas for just £15, from Tuesday to Friday from 12-3pm.

Chef Patron Simon Shaw commented: “The demand from diners since we opened our doors in 2016 has been unprecedented, so we’re pleased to extend our dining offering so guests can enjoy the full El Gato Negro experience across all floors.

“The ground floor will be predominantly open to walk ins and we hope this, combined with the extension of our dining space and introduction of our new lunch menu, will allow us to share our Spanish delicacies with more guests than ever before.”

Current dishes draw on both modern and traditional flavours, boasting plates which combine the magic of Spanish cuisine with fresh local ingredients, such as sardines marinated in olive oil and pickled vegetables, with fennel and orange salad, spiced aubergine with onion confit, fritarda sauce and lavosh bread and braised ox cheek with horseradish mash, baby onions, button mushrooms and pancetta.

This news follows the inclusion of Chef Patron Simon Shaw in cook book, Relish North West Second Helping, which is on sale in the restaurant allowing customers to create Simon’s take on modern Spanish dishes at home.

El Gato Negro has received critical acclaim since opening its doors in February 2016. The restaurant has since been crowned Newcomer of the Year at the 2016 Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards and City Restaurant of the Year at the Lancashire Life Food and Drink Awards.

Furthermore, the restaurant was listed as one of the two Manchester restaurants in the National Restaurant Awards 2017, included in the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2018, and the only Manchester city centre restaurant to receive a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2017 – the special recognition was awarded to the restaurant for offering exceptionally good food, at moderate prices.
