Marcus Chilton-Jones as Curator of RHS Garden Bridgewater in Salford.
Marcus joins RHS Garden Bridgewater from the Dorothy Clive Garden in North Staffordshire, where he worked as Curator for eight years.
Marcus says: “I am looking forward immensely to joining the RHS and helping to lead on the exciting plans the Society has for developing RHS Garden Bridgewater into a world-class horticultural visitor destination for the northwest of England. It is a dream project for me.”
Marcus brings a wealth of experience to the role. Having graduated with a degree in History from Manchester University, he decided to pursue a career in horticulture which has taken him from the National Trust garden at Nymans in West Sussex to Trentham Gardens in Staffordshire, via the Berryfields Garden on BBC Gardeners’ World and most recently the Dorothy Clive Garden.
Starting at RHS Garden Bridgewater in the New Year, Marcus will be responsible for all aspects of horticulture as this beautiful garden is developed and opens in phases from 2019. Marcus will build and work with a team of talented horticulturists to secure the rebirth of this lost historic site and create a welcoming and inspiring garden of national and international significance.
The 11-acre walled garden at RHS Garden Bridgewater is the first section of the huge garden planned to open in 2019 as part of the Society’s wider 10-year £160 million investment programme to achieve its Vision to enrich everyone’s life through plants, and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place.
