People have been descending to Blackpool this weekend, making the most of the warm sunshine before the rest of Lancashire prepares for coronavirus restrictions to come into force.

Gem Concannon, 36, from Northwich, Cheshire, said she had visited the resort on Saturday with her family

She said: “It was heaving, hardly anyone was wearing masks or social distancing. It was shocking.

“I’ve never seen it that busy before.”

Blackpool resident Sylvia Cleaver told the Blackpool Gazette added:

As a local it’s worrying that so many people are flocking from the towns with higher rates of infection and there is no checking where people have come from.

“I feel the Government need to intervene. The Pleasure Beach is a joke. I believe it’s overflowing.”

While Stacey Rasheeed said on twitter

“Lancashire going into lockdown with the exception of Blackpool??? This was Blackpool last night! no social distancing anywhere, no masks worn in any amusements or shop…it’s a joke!“

On Friday, Lancashire Police deputy chief constable Terry Woods appealed for people not to have one “last blast” before the restrictions come into place.
