Costa Coffee has announced it is launching free regional workshops to give advice and coaching to young people taking their first steps on the career ladder in Manchester.
Young people aged 16 – 24 are invited to a free interactive workshop on 30th June at the Costa Coffee Market Street, Manchester from 5pm – 7pm with Costa’s own Talent Specialists to gain confidence in their own employability skills.
Nearly a third of people in Manchester feel that their first job helped them to prepare for future roles by providing them with a good grounding in the vital skills of communication and team-working which they still use to this day.
The skills employers look for in new candidates marry with these with 63% of employers from Manchester wanting to ensure their new hire can work well as part of a team, that they possess good communication skills (45%) and they show passion for their job (37%)
Despite the rise in digital communications, 60% of employers from Manchester state that face-to-face communication is more important now than it was ten years ago highlighting that it’s important for job seekers to be themselves and be strong face-to-face communicators.
People from Manchester are a sociable bunch with over a third10 saying having fun with their colleagues was the aspect of the job they remember most fondly. In fact, 42% of them are still to this day in touch with people they first worked with.
What’s more, over a third of people would love the opportunity to meet with their first boss again and show them how they have progressed.
