Despite falling short 48-42 at Ipswich, Belle Vue boss Mark Lemon had plenty to smile about after his side claimed a consolation point from the Foxhall Stadium after a fiercely contested battle.
With an improved performance in Suffolk, the Rentruck Aces declared their intent by holding the Tru Plant Witches to ransom with a string of shared heats that kept the scores level much of the night.
In fact, they briefly led the meeting after Max Fricke and Steve Worrall teamed up in Heat 1 to take a 5-1, and they clung to a narrow 2-point lead for two further races until Ipswich levelled the field.
This deadlock would remain in place for seven more heats until the home team managed to just about break away, but not far enough so as to prevent a consolation point for the Rentruck Aces.
Mark Lemon said: “There was a heavy downpour a couple of hours before the meeting which, I think, made the track condition difficult in the beginning and also making it a leveller.
“Our boys adapted to the conditions and it showed in how they rode.
“I couldn’t be happier with the result. There is an element of frustration when the win is so close to coming your way, but we got an away league point and that was a job well done from the guys.
“There were individual positives with Steve Worrall and new signing Nikolaj B. Jakobsen scoring well, but collectively it was a solid night and we extend our thanks to Nick Morris for stepping in at short notice.
“Ipswich lived up to expectations as a strong team at home, but I think we’ve again proved our capabilities and our potential on the road. We just need to keep this up as we move forward.”
The Rentruck Aces head to Wolverhampton on Monday, August 5 before the Cool Running Colts take control at the National Speedway Stadium against Leicester next Thursday, August 8.
