During the final Manchester Originals home game on Wednesday the team celebrated four youngsters from Denton West Primary School by announcing them as the winners of its Original Designers local community competition.

As part of the Original Designers competition, entrants were required to design their own version of the Manchester Originals team logo which encapsulates the excitement and energy of cricket as well as the authenticity and vibrancy of Manchester.

Now in its third year, The Hundred has firmly established itself as an exciting day out for families and friends across the UK, with the Manchester Originals team boasting a wide and diverse audience of supporters. The Original Designers competition is just one of many community activities that the Originals’ team has been involved with this season, to bring the excitement of cricket to the fans and get the next generation excited about the sport.

Nine-year-olds Eliza Dunphy, Iris Smale, Alonzo Plummer, and Neve Warner all from Denton were crowned as winners of the competition. They were all invited onto the stage where headline music act Lottery Winners performed, to show off their designs to a crowd of 13,500 cricket fans and chat to hosts DJ Roesh and Harpz Kaur about the inspirations behind their designs.

The four youngsters were also awarded free tickets to the game where Manchester Originals played against Southern Brave in an action-packed showdown ahead of the pre-eliminator match at the Oval on Sunday, where both teams will once again go head-to-head for a place in the final game of The Hundred.

Combining a short, fast form of cricket, with every game lasting less than three hours, and unmissable entertainment including a stellar line-up of music acts in partnership with BBC Introducing, The Hundred aims to make cricket more accessible to new and wider audiences. This year, the Manchester Originals home fixtures have brought record crowds to Emirates Old Trafford to be a part of the excitement.

Fi Morris, who plays on the Manchester Originals women’s team, said:

“It’s brilliant to see that there are so many young cricket fans in the community – and that The Hundred has given them a chance to really engage with and enjoy the sport. The Original Designers competition has been great in terms of empowering the next generation of fans and bringing together diverse communities, which is exactly what The Hundred aims to achieve – so I’d say this has been a huge success!”
