It was a night to remember, as Chotto Matte officially launched its much-anticipated Manchester site on Tuesday evening, bringing its Japanese-Peruvian Nikkei cuisine and high-energy nightlife to the heart of the city. Located on the 10th floor of Gary Neville’s landmark St Michael’s development, the global restaurant brand delivered a spectacular opening that lit up the city skyline.
Guests were welcomed by the powerful rhythm of Japanese Taiko drummers at the entrance, setting an electrifying tone from the moment they arrived. A striking purple carpet, with a newspaper style Chotto Matte branded press board, attracted a stylish crowd of celebrities, influencers, and leading figures from Manchester’s business and cultural scene.

Notable guests included football icon Gary Neville and his wife Emma, actress Brooke Vincent, Real Housewives of Cheshire stars including Lauren Simon, and Manchester United legend Nicky Butt.
The exclusive event offered VIP guests a first look inside the 20,000 sq ft venue – the brand’s second UK location and its first in the North of England. With panoramic views across the Manchester skyline, the venue is a showpiece within the £400 million St Michael’s development.
Entertainment was non-stop, with a high energy performance from Manchester’s very own Mason Collective, sets from Chotto Matte’s resident DJ inside and outside, and a vibrant mix of Harajuku-style Japanese performers alongside a live Mariachi band.
A highlight of the evening was the traditional Sake Ceremony, a signature element at every Chotto Matte launch. Following a welcome speech by Founder Kurt Zdesar, a 72-litre barrel of sake was unveiled and ceremoniously opened. Guests were then invited to partake in the celebration with a round of sake shots, adding an authentic touch.
Guests enjoyed a curated menu of signature dishes, including Nikkei Sashimi, Pollo Den Miso Skewers, Black Cod, Sea Bass Ceviche Bowls, and Mini Churros along with playful offerings such as caviar bumps, and soft-serve ice cream topped with caviar and churros. Signature cocktails like the Pisco Sour and Flor de Manzana flowed throughout the evening as well as a number of offerings from Claude’s Skyview Bar, the restaurant’s very own tequila and mezcal offering.
A standout feature of the night was the live nigiri station, by Head Sushi Chef Keita. Throughout the evening, guests were invited to watch fresh nigiri prepared in real time, adding an interactive dining element to the celebration.
Florals from local florist Springbank transformed the venue’s two bars with striking installations, while cult favourite Gooey collaborated with the Chotto Matte kitchen team on a limited-edition mini donut filled with dulce de leche and matcha.
As the evening drew to a close, each guest departed with a luxurious Chotto Matte goody bag, featuring exclusive collaborations with interiors brand Arighi Bianchi and beauty favourite REFY – including limited-edition Chotto Matte chopsticks and a selection of premium treats.
