The hero, the man in blue, is Mike Deveney
Today Mike is 57 years old. Three years ago he lost his left leg to diabetes and, since then, he has been limited in how far he can travel.
Soon after his leg was amputated, a friend gave him an electric wheelchair, but its battery life is extremely limited.
Now a campaign has been launched by two photographers Joel Goodman and Roland Hughes want to get him a decent wheelchair, one with the best range possible, to give him greater freedom. This will cost between £4,000 and £6,000 from Millercare. They will assess Mike’s needs at home to ensure he gets the best option for the money we raise.
Mike said: “It’s terrible now. I can use my chair to get to the top of the road and back, but I can’t go to my friends’ in Miles Platting. I’m just stuck. A new chair would make a hell of a difference to me.”
