A Manchester runner is on a mission to help raise money to help build a school in Malawi.

Brendan Russell, based in Salford Quays, has, in less than five months, run three marathons, Manchester,Windermere and Yeovil, ran 58km in the Lakeland Trials UltraMarathon, 50km Salisbury UltraMarathon and ran the hundred and ninety two mile Coast to Coast through the Lake District, North Yorkshire Moors and North Yorkshire Dales.

The money raised is going directly to build the art and science block for FOMO Friends of Mulanje Orphans, a small charity that support 4,500 orphans in the country.

Brendan has been involved with the charity since 2008 when he cycled across the country.

He has already  reached £13,698 (with gift aid) of his target of £35,000 and when he reaches of £20,000 is reached, the building will start.
Next year Brendan, who is doing teacher training in Special Education needs, will continue the running and fundraising with a variety of marathons and ultra marathons including London Marathon and running Hadrian’s Wall 84 miles in 2 days.

Brendan will also be running the full length of Malawi, leaving on July 4th and running the 600 mile route to the south. Emma Timmis who ran Africa Coast to coast in 2014 will be joining him as lead support. She won Physical Endeavour at the National Adventure Awards.
But the running will continue when he returns to the Uk to run John o Groats to Lands End, having cycled it five years ago, he says that it is fitting that he now plans to run it.
