The festival that fuses music, science and cosmic culture at Cheshire’s iconic Jodrell Bank Observatory has announced ‘bluedot Late Night’ – a special late night electronic music line up hosting international electronic artists, parties and world-exclusive A/V installations.

The weekend will culminate with Max Cooper soundtracking an ambient AV art piece projected on the surface of the 200-foot Lovell Telescope, following a special 3D/AV immersive show in the Orbit arena. Legendary ex-Radio 1 DJ and Before Midnight creator Annie Mac will wrap up the incredible weekend as she headlines the Sunday night Closing Party.

Following the critically-acclaimed new album This Is What We Do – featuring poet Lemn Sissay and Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten – Leftfield headline Friday’s late night at bluedot.

The multiple Mercury Prize nominees have become one of dance music’s most enduring and thrilling live acts, and their headline performance in bluedot’s Orbit arena will be an all-out assault of bass-laden live electronica and AV. Underground icon David Holmes will also perform a genre spanning set on bluedot’s Friday night.

In a fresh addition to this year’s interstellar line-up electronic pioneers 2manydjs join the bill on Saturday evening to close the Orbit arena. The Dewaele brothers descend on Jodrell Bank 21 years on from the infamous As Heard On Radio Soulwax Part 2, having recently headlined a sold-out Printworks London to celebrate the influential album’s anniversary.

Joining 2manydjs on Saturday’s late-night is Erol Alkan, the DJ and producer behind some of electronic music’s best loved remixes of recent years and the founder of Phantasy, the record label home of Daniel Avery, Red Axes and Alkan’s own Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve project.

Alongside Leftfield, 2manydjs and Erol Alkan as part of bluedot’s line-up is the creator of BBC1’s ‘Essential Mix of the Year’ in 2021 and founder of record label Femme Culture, British producer and DJ Elkka, plus Future Utopia, the production project of Fraser T Smith, whose songwriting and production credits include collaborations with Stormzy, Adele and Dave. His 2023 return kick-started with We Were We Still Are, his new single with bluedot favourite Kae Tempest.

bluedot Late Night accompanies the recent announcement of bluedot’s 2023 day splits. Following a Thursday night Opening Concert from Max Richter and the BBC Concert Orchestra performing VOICES and Recomposed, the defacto queen of discopop Róisín Murphy takes top spot on Friday evening’s Lovell Stage after Django Django and Black Country, New Road, while lo-fi pioneers Pavement headline Saturday at bluedot with an exclusive only UK performance of 2023 alongside Dry Cleaning, Malian desert blues pioneers Tinariwen and culture from Moonage Daydream creator Brett Morgen and Nish Kumar.

The iconic Grace Jones will close the festival on Sunday beneath the UNESCO World Heritage Site’s Lovell Telescope with her only northern show of the summer, preceded by Mercury Prize winners Young Fathers.

Festival director Ben Robinson said:

“We are delighted to unveil bluedot late night, an ambitious new late night offering at the festival. Especially exciting is our collaboration with Max Cooper and MESH on a late night projection piece on the Lovell Telescope, accompanied by a special ambient soundtrack. This, alongside headline performances from 2manydjs, Elkka, Erol Alkan and a huge Closing Party with Annie Mac, make late nights at bluedot 2023 a really exciting part of this year’s festival. We look forward to welcoming you all to bluedot this summer to continue the cosmic adventures.”

bluedot was recently named Line-Up Of The Year at the UK Festival Awards, and Festival of the Year at the Live Awards, and has hosted headline performances from the likes of Bjork, Kraftwerk 3-D, New Order, The Chemical Brothers, Mogwai, Pixies, The Flaming Lips, Underworld and Jean-Michel Jarre, plus high-profile talks from Tim Peake, Brian Cox, Helen Sharman, Alice Roberts and Richard Dawkins and an array of groundbreaking arts and family experiences.
