The Greater Manchester vaccination centre, located at the Tennis and Football centre, Etihad campus, is offering round the clock COVID-19 vaccine appointments from 8am Sunday 19 December to 8pm Monday 20 December.

These appointments will be available to book online via the national booking system or by calling 119.

Appointments and walk ins are available from 8am to 8pm for first, second and booster doses for anyone 18 and above.

From 8pm to 8am the centre will only be open for pre-booked booster appointments for anyone 18 or over who completed their primary course at least 3 months ago.

This record 36 hour long clinic is part of the NHS’s response to the Government’s call to offer everyone aged 18 and above a booster before the end of the year in a race to protect the nation against the Omicron variant.

Here in Greater Manchester, overnight appointments are being trialled in conjunction with other clinics offering late night appointments in a bid to improve access and take up of the vaccine.

Elizabeth Lamerton, associate director of pharmacy and clinical lead for the vaccination programme at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust said:

“NHS staff were already working incredibly hard to deliver COVID vaccines as swiftly as possible but the threat posed by Omicron is grave.

“Scientists are very concerned about the spread of Omicron due to the speed with which it spreads and because two doses do not appear to provide much protection but thankfully, a booster dramatically improves this.”

“I’d like to urge anyone not yet vaccinated, or those eligible for a booster to come forward now.”

Christine Khiroya, lead nurse for screening and immunisation

“I am so impressed by the way staff and volunteers are stepping up to the challenge of Omicron and those working at the Greater Manchester vaccination centre are a shining example of this. Thousands more people are safer because of them.”
