This Sunday Abbey Road residents came together to close their street in a traditional street party all in the aim of creating a stronger, and safer, community.

Now in its third year, the residents on Abbey Road hosted a street party that closed the road with the support of Trafford Partnership and its Safer Communities Grant bringing together residents, both old and young, who came together to share lunch and street party games in a traditional style community event.

Mark Hayward, the event organiser, said; “Although there was a threat of rain, we had such a great turnout and the road has been buzzing with conversation and laughter ever since. It’s all about bring everyone together and seeing how we can all help each other to create a stronger, better and safer community – and I genuinely feel like we have a better community spirit as a result of the event.”

With a charity Swap Shop and donations for face painting, the event also raised £140 for Dementia UK.

The event wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the residents, local businesses like Salisbury’s Sale who donated flowers, Trafford Council who authorised the closure of the road, and the Safer Communities grant.
