A thousand new cycle parking spaces are being provided in the city centre thanks to money provided by an airport windfall.
Manchester City Council is creating the extra spaces using money from the clean city fund – and is now asking cyclists for their ideas about where they should go.
A total of £232,000 has been set aside for the scheme, and the council now wants to hear from any cycling organisations, residents or visitors to the city for suggestions about where to put them.

As well as standard bike stands, city council engineers are also looking into introducing more innovative designs often seen on the streets of European cities.

The money to provide the parking spaces has come from the £14.5m clean city fund, from the council’s shareholding in Manchester Airports PLC and is used to create long term improvements to Manchester’s environment.
