Investigations are under way to discover the cause of cracks in a Salford road.

Around 150 metres of Vine Street, which overlooks Kersal Dale has cracked and partially collapsed. Homes along the road, which runs along the top of a steep, wooded hillside, are not affected and the road is not a bus route.

Salford City Council highways engineers are on site and have cordoned off the affected area but kept one carriageway open for emergency services, access and deliveries. Drainage systems in the area are also being checked.

Councillor Mike McCusker, Executive Support Member for Planning, Housing and Sustainable Development said: “The team responded quickly to the reports of damage and are working to discover the cause of the problem. Our investigations are at an early stage.”
