A 44 year old man has been left with serious head injuries following an assault in Blackley last night.

The incident happened on Charlestown Road near to The Charlestown pub around 10.30

The man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. He remains in a stable condition receiving treatment.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody for questioning and police say enquires are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Jen Tattersall, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “A man has been left with serious head injuries, including a fractured skull, and our thoughts remain with him as he receives treatment in hospital.

“Whilst we have a man in custody who will be questioned by my team throughout the day, our enquiries are continuing and I would urge anyone with information to contact police.

“We know that a number of people were in the immediate area last night and I would appeal directly to anyone who witnessed the assault to please get in touch so we can piece together what happened.”
