A 32-year-old man had been stabbed inside a maisonette flat in Newton Heath.

Emergency services attended at the flat on Surbiton Rd this afternoon and the man was taken to hospital with multiple injuries including a stab wound to the neck, throat and left side of chest. He remains in a serious condition in hospital where he requires surgery.

Officers are appealing for information and want to speak to two men in connection with the incident.

The men are described as white, in their 20s and wearing dark clothing.

They were seen in the area around 30 minutes before the stabbing.

Detective Inspector Rob Howarth of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “The fact that this brutal attack took place in broad daylight is quite simply shocking.

“A man is currently in a very serious condition in hospital and the coming hours could prove crucial in our investigation to find those responsible. We believe that this was a targeted attack and there is nothing to suggest any risk to the wider community.

“If anyone knows how this man came to be attacked or has any information whatsoever about the events leading up to the attack, I’d urge you to get in touch with us straight away.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1153 of 25/07/2017 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
