A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a women was attacked in Clayton in the early hours of this morning.

The 30-year-old woman was found with with serious injuries on Bank Street around 5.00am this morning.

She has been taken to hospital where she remains for treatment.

A cordon is currently in place and an investigation has been launched.

Detective Inspector Gary Smith, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “This was a horrific attack that has left an innocent woman in hospital with several serious injuries.

“Whilst we have made an arrest and are treating this as an isolated incident, I want to stress that our investigation is still in its very early stages and enquiries are ongoing.

“I would appeal to anyone with any information that could assist our investigation to please get in touch.”
