Three teenage boys, all aged 15,are currently in custody being questioned by officers in connection with the attack at Freehold Metrolink stop when a 49 year old man was attacked as he got off a tram at Freehold Metrolink stop

The 49-year-old was then subjected to a sustained, unprovoked attack after being knocked unconscious.

Fortunately a tram travelling in the opposite direction saw the ongoing assault and the driver stopped to intervene, as well as passengers.

Officers released CCTV to the media and public in a bid to get more information about the incident.

Following intelligence received and further enquiries by detectives two of the teenagers were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and one has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Detective Sergeant John Coleman, from GMP’s Oldham borough, said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the public for sending in video footage and information following our appeal – you have been key to helping us with this investigation.

“Secondly, although we have three in custody I want to make it clear our enquiries do not stop here and we will continue investigating until we have the answers this victim deserves.

“I would still appeal to anyone with any information about this attack, or the people involved, to please contact police. Even something trivial could prove vital in bringing to justice those responsible.”
