The University of Salford has a new Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Helen Marshall’s appointment comes after her short period as acting Vice-Chancellor following the retirement of former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Martin Hall, in December 2014.
Professor Marshall joined Salford in July 2013 as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, after three years in the same position at the University of South Wales.
Born in Cardiff, she previously held senior positions at the University of Central Lancashire and the University of Cumbria, before moving to South Wales in 2010.
Commenting on Professor Marshall’s appointment, the University’s Chair of Council Beverley Hughes said: “Following a rigorous selection process which included representation from academic and administrative staff and students, validated by independent advisors including a current Vice-Chancellor, Helen proved herself to be the outstanding candidate.
“It’s a credit to the University that it has the talent to draw internally for this important position. On behalf of the whole University Council I am delighted to welcome Helen to this position.”
Professor Marshall added: “Since joining Salford two years ago, I have been struck by the enormous potential that exists to shape this University into an institution that nurtures outstanding talent and opportunity for its graduates.
“Whilst we have a lot of work to do to, I am relishing the opportunity to work with colleagues to establish Salford as an outstanding University.”
