Jack Prady, a 33-year-old operations director from Worsley is running 183 miles from Wembley to Old Trafford to raise money for The Christie. He’s hoping to complete the challenge in just four days.

Jack and two of his closest friends (Simon Parrott and Sam McMahon) are taking on the challenge in memory of Jack’s mum – Tracy Prady – who was a bowel cancer patient at The Christie. Tracy was diagnosed in 2015 and sadly passed away five years later.

They’ll also be running for Simon’s partner’s sister, Verity, who was treated for a rare soft tissue cancer at the specialist cancer centre. Verity died in 2018 at 29 years old.

Jack and Simon have a history of doing big challenges to raise money for The Christie. They raised over £20,000 last year by running 72 miles, almost three marathons, in just 24 hours.

“As a family, we were bowled over by the support we received last time. It just shows how much Mum meant to those around her,” comments Jack. “Simon and I kept up the running after the initial challenge and the conversation kept turning to what we could do next. Then we came up with the idea of running from Wembley to Old Trafford. It’s going to be tough, but going through cancer treatment is even tougher, and if we can approach it with just half of the determination that Mum showed throughout her treatment, we’ll be fine.”

“I’m drawing inspiration from my partner Merridith,” comments Simon.” She has such a positive outlook on life, even after losing her sibling at a young age. The strength she shows every day will help me get through this gruelling event with a smile on my face.”

Jack and Simon couldn’t speak more highly of the hospital that treated Tracy and Verity.

“The doctors and nurses at The Christie felt like friends to us,” continues Jack. “Even though Mum’s cancer was incurable, they helped her live as full of a life as she could and gave us five years with her that we otherwise wouldn’t have had. Raising money is our way of saying thank you.”

Jack, Simon and Sam will set off from Wembley on Saturday, 22 October 2022. They’ve raised nearly £8,000 so far and you can sponsor them at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/7marathons4days

“Jack has already done so much for our charity, so to hear he was taking on another challenge was amazing,” comments Lindsey Farthing, sporting events manager at The Christie charity. “We’re in awe of all he’s achieved and wish him all the best for his mammoth run. Everyone at The Christie charity will be cheering him on.”
