The transformation of Stockport Town Centre as part of Stockport Council’s £1bn regeneration programme continues, as partners met to celebrate this latest milestone on Thursday, March 24, with work getting underway on Phase 3 of the town centre’s new urban village at Hopes Carr.
This phase of the popular development will see the construction of 12 houses available through shared ownership and 2 apartments for affordable rent on land off Orchard Street. These are being delivered by Seddon on behalf of Stockport Homes Group.
The first two phases of Hopes Carr are now complete, with all properties fully occupied. Phase 1 included the delivery of 46 apartments by Seddon (ID4 Living) for Stockport Homes Group. Phase 2, also delivered by Seddon (ID4 Living), saw 36 family houses for owner occupation and private rent. In addition, in the nearby Covent Garden area, 74 new homes were completed in 2019 by Your Housing Group, one of the council’s Partner Registered Housing Providers.
The development forms part of Covent Garden Village, which has regenerated the area to provide high-quality mixed-use development aimed at families, in an attractive and sustainable environment, where residents can benefit from all the amenities of Stockport Town Centre. The properties provide much needed accommodation with a mix of tenures in an area of limited housing opportunities.
Cllr Elise Wilson, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “This development has already been an enormous success and the future for this site is really exciting, new affordable and much-needed homes and yet another fantastic new town centre park which will be created at a nearby site soon after.
“So, I’m delighted that work is now underway to create this next phase for our residents. We’re creating new communities in the heart of the town centre, who can take advantage of exciting retail and leisure such as Redrock, access to jobs in improved office space and enjoy the culture of the Underbanks right on their doorstep with improvements to Merseyway also underway.
“We’re ambitious for Stockport and Hopes Carr benefits from fantastic rail and road connectivity. The arrival of our brand-new transport hub, along with a new town centre park, will be a massive boost to residents. I look forward to work progressing at this popular town centre location.”
