An armed duo forced their way into a woman’s home and hit her over the head with a machete in Heald Green.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance on Outwood Road on Tuesday evening.

The offenders forced the front door open and two men armed with a machete and a metal pole confronted a woman in her 20’s in the address.

The men rifled through her handbag whilst demanding money.

One attacker proceeded to attack the woman with a machete, leaving her with serious head and hand injuries which required hospital treatment.

Another woman at the address – who was in her 50’s – tried to call the police before she was also assaulted by one of the men.

Thankfully she did not suffer any serious injuries.

The offenders then fled empty handed.

The men were both wearing grey tracksuit bottoms with light grey jackets and had scarves over their faces.

Detective Constable Claire Shakespeare, from GMP’s Stockport borough, said: “This was a despicable attack on a family with young children who were in the house at the time.

“The victims have been left traumatised by this attack which could have resulted in devastating consequences.

“Not only was a woman hospitalised at the hands of these men, but significant damage to the property was also caused and we’re working hard to find the men responsible.

“I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious or has any information that could assist our investigation to please contact police.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 1895 of 9 January 2018, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
