This weekend The Whitworth Museum has been transformed into a Scandinavian wonderland for a weekend of free events to celebrate winter.

Inspired by the Danish word ‘Hygge’, meaning warmth, cosiness and wellbeing, and by the beauty of the Northern Lights, The Frost Fair promotes art and togetherness, encouraging gallery visitors, the local community and members of the whole family to come together and enjoy winter at the Whitworth.

The two-day programme of free activities includes an environmentally sustainable ice rink, short films screening on an outdoor cinema in the Art Garden and live music, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Walk The Plank, one of the UK’s foremost outdoor arts companies, will perform The Ice Queen & Ice Queen’s Courtyard, involving theatrical moments, puppetry and light displays.

The Ice Queen will hold court on the Sculpture Terrace, where she will command both ice and fire, a performance not to be missed.

There will be an array of market stalls displaying the best local craft ales from Cloudwater Brewery served up with delicious international street food. The finale of the weekend will be an enthralling fire and fireworks display on Sunday evening.

Gallery activities are on offer throughout the weekend, providing entertaining, lively and interactive spaces for all ages to enjoy.
