Getting a puncture on your car means automatically replacing the wheel before you head any further, right? Not necessarily. There are plenty of circumstances where you can quickly and easily repair a puncture yourself at the side of the road. Given plenty of cars don’t necessarily come with a spare wheel, there are many drivers out there who won’t have a choice but to carry a repair kit.

It’s also highly likely that plenty of used cars will be sold without their original repair kit. It might have been used or just lost in the early stage of a car’s life.

In this case, you’ll need to buy a new one. These are the best tyre repair kits you can buy right now.

AirMan ResQ Emergency Tyre Repair Kit

RRP: £35.98

Why buy it?

Worried about going for an unknown, unrecommended product when it comes to something as important as repairing a puncture? No such fear with this repair kit, as it’s recommended by a selection of car makers, such as Ford, Volkswagen and others.

It’s also a good option for premium vehicles with the sort of large alloy wheels that are in fashion these days, as it is suitable for tyres up to 21-inches in diameter.

It works by pumping a gel sealant into the tyre via the valve, using a 12-volt compressor, which is included. It’s a bit more expensive than the other options, but it does offer that reassurance of big-brand backing.

AirMan ResQ Pilot Roadside Tyre Repair Kit

RRP: £29.99

Why buy it?

This is the same brand as the kit above, has the same equipment and works in the same way, but is fractionally cheaper. Surely it makes you’d just pick this one, right? There is a good reason though – this kit only comes with a 300ml bottle of sealant rather than the 450ml bottle that comes with the more expensive AirMan. This means it is only suitable for smaller wheels, sized up to 17-inches.

It’s still a good kit, and is still recommended by the same vehicle brands, but it isn’t going to cut it when you are stranded in your luxury SUV with its big wheels.

Tyre Doctor Tyre Puncture Repair Kit

RRP: £9.99

Why buy it?

Want to keep it cheap and simple? This is the best way to go about it. The Tyre Doctor kit is small and doesn’t cost much – it can be had for less than a tenner.

It requires a bit more effort and work than some other kits that take more of a plug-and-play approach, but it also doesn’t take the simplistic approach of filling a tyre with sealant.

GADLANE Tubeless Tyre Puncture Repair Kit

RRP: £15.99

Why buy it?

The Gadlane kit works in a similar way to the Tyre Doctor version but it brings a bit more equipment with it, so you don’t need to delve into your own toolbox at home.

This equipment includes things like a pair of rubber gloves, some pliers and the various tools you need to plug a hole in a tyre. It means you’re more likely to have everything you need for a roadside repair, rather than having to wait until you get home to carry out the procedure.
