The Home Secretary Suella Braverman has been detailing the conclusions of the Manchester Arena inquiry in the House of Commons

She told MP’s that ‘we must do everything possible to avoid a repeat of this outrage’ adding of the night of the attack

“What should have been a simple pleasure turned into a hellish nightmare”

She added though that “We must not lose sight of the fact that responsibility for the attack lies with the bomber and his brother”

She told MP’s that the Government has strengthened controls around the acquisition of materials used in explosives and had ended the automatic releases of terrorist offenders as well as strengthening the tools for monitoring dangerous people within the community

The third and final report on the attack from Sir John Saunders published last week concluded that there were failures in sharing information and techniques missed opportunities to prevent the attack

Bury North MP James Daley said that the apology given by MI5 was not enough

Speaking after the statement from the Home Secretary he said:

“Today we have the third volume of the report, where it says there was a significant missed opportunity to take action on the part of MI5.

“We also have highlighted previously the shocking failures of the venue’s owners, the security contractors and emergency services.

“Some of these people could still be alive today and I would like to know about accountability.

“Too often in this place, an apology from an organisation seems to be enough when it’s not.

“People died as a result of the actions of not only this bomber, but the gross negligence of some of the bodies that I have been talking about.

“Who is being held accountable? Who is going to be responsible? And will this information be passed on to the families?”
