It’s not uncommon for people to dread household chores. However, doing them is a necessity if you want to keep your home clean and tidy, and therefore improve your standard of living. Here is how to approach some of the most disliked household jobs to make them easier and motivate you to get them done.

Ironing

Ironing is Britain’s most unpopular chore, with 50% of people stating they dislike it, and 30% even stating they dislike it a lot. This is likely due to how time-consuming it can be, especially if you are doing it for more than one person.

However, you may potentially motivate yourself to iron by positioning your equipment in front of the TV where you can binge watch your favourite show for hours on end.

 Cleaning the house

Cleaning the house is the second most disliked chore in the UK, which again is most likely due to how time consuming it can become. When your entire house is messy or dirty, starting the cleaning process can seem overwhelming.

Our top tip is to start small, and clean in in incremental steps. Employ the ‘clean-as-you-go’ method so you don’t build up mess and find yourself having to clean your home all at once.

If you live with children or in shared accommodation with other adults, try to get everyone accustomed with these good habits, so you don’t end up taking on a huge task all by yourself.

Washing up

A load of dirty dishes after cooking is certainly a very unappealing part of the cooking process. With 32% of UK citizens disliking washing up but 62% enjoying cooking, it’s an unfortunate, but essential part of everyday life.

A study with Circulon shows that 71% of people dread the washing up process, attributing their annoyance to how food can often get stuck to pans and therefore make it harder to clean up.

To get round this, you may want to invest in a set of non-stick pans which will make the washing up process that little bit easier. You may also consider getting a smart dishwasher which can wash a variety of equipment without damaging it.

Vacuuming

Vacuuming is also disliked amongst Brits, perhaps due to the noise vacuum cleaners exert and the physical labour it takes – hoovering up the stairs is not an easy task!

You can look to overcome your hatred of vacuuming by getting rid of any fabrics, cushions or carpets that cause excess dust. This means that you will find yourself having to vacuum less, and when you do – it’ll be an easier job.

Technology is evolving in many great ways these days, and one thing it has to boast of is the Roomba vacuum. This will automatically hoover your house whilst you can get on with other chores.

By changing your perspective on how you view household chores, and taking steps to make them seem less daunting, you’ll find that cleaning and doing the laundry can actually be quite therapeutic and enjoyable.
