The village of Simister near Prestwich will once again be transformed for a 1940s Home Front Day in aid of veterans’ care home Broughton House.
The community event will take place from 11am-4pm on Sunday, May 5.
It is again being organised by Sue and Paul Greenlees, who have rallied support from the village and beyond.
Among the attractions will be an armoured vehicles display, wartime music, a mobile interactive ‘living history’ museum and mobile airsoft shooting range, stalls, a vintage tea room and a raffle.
Simister will be decked out in bunting and villagers will wear 1940s clothing.In the evening, the Same Yet Inn on Simister Lane will host a disco.Last year’s event raised more than £1,000 for Broughton House in Salford.
Sue said: “Our 1940s Home Front Day in 2018 was a tremendous success, with a lovely family atmosphere and superb weather.
“It was hard work but very worthwhile and we are hoping to raise even more money this time around.
“Broughton House is a fantastic charity which deserves our support and we look forward to welcoming staff and veterans to our event to add to the occasion.”
For safety reasons, Sue is urging people attending from outside Simister to use local buses or to park on Heywood Road between Parrenthorn High School and the motorway bridge before walking into the main village.

“This year’s event is truly back by popular demand. The number of people, staff and residents who have asked if it would be on again this year has been amazing.
“Sue, Paul and the rest of the village do a fantastic job and our residents are really looking forward to the event. It’s a great family occasion and I look forward seeing everyone there on the day.”
