Hatch, the food and retail box park set under the Mancunian Way flyover on Oxford Road, has welcomed a new food trader in time for Christmas.

Vegan doner legends, What The Pitta!, will bring their plant-based Middle Eastern flavours to the Hatch community intheir second city centre outpost. Opening on Tuesday 15th November 2022, they’ll offer their 100% vegan menu, which covers hand rolled breads, homemade hummus and sauces, and their signature doner pieces.

Their famously good ‘doner’ meat is made with soya and seasoned with top secret spices, served on a kebab, gyros, or as a mezze/chip-box. Other menu highlights include the Falafel Wrap – home-made falafel served with authentic spices, tahini dressing, and chill sauce in freshly made bread, and the Chick’n Gyros – vegan chicken pieces, served inside fluffy pitta with tomato, lettuce, red onions, paprika fries & signature vegan tzatziki.

What The Pitta! began after its owner and founder, Cem Yildiz, switched to a plant-based diet, and saw a gap in the market for a high-quality vegan kebab that matched the taste and flavours of a classic lamb doner kebab.

Together with business partner Roj Gul, Cem opened their first What the Pitta! street food stall in Shoreditch in 2016. The team are not only passionate about the flavours of their food, but also about providing a healthier, more sustainable alternative to a beloved global favourite. The whole menu at Hatch will be climate labelled in collaboration with Klimate, to help customers make more informed choices about what they’re consuming.

Since opening, What The Pitta!’s famous doner kebabs have gained cult-like status amongst vegan foodies in London. In 2020, they were awarded ‘Best Takeaway in London’ at the British Kebab Awards and now, What The Pitta! are expanding across the city bringing their award-winning kebabs over to Hatch.

They will join the already well-established community of exciting and vibrant street food vendors at Manchester’s award winning food, drink and retail destination which include Kong’s Chicken Shop and Cheeky Tikka Bites.

“We’re so excited to bring our Vegan Doner Kebabs to Hatch,” says Cem Yildz. “Having started as a street food vendor in a similar place to Hatch back in 2016, we really like the bustle and community of these kinds of spaces. We can’t wait to introduce our meat-free kebab to even more customers and highlight that you can enjoy vegan food without compromising on flavour.”

“We’re thrilled that What The Pitta! are joining us over here at Hatch, making the range of food options available more diverse than ever,” added Hannah Smithies from Hatch.  “We’re especially proud to be supporting an independent brand that is so committed to sustainability and we can’t wait for everyone to try their incredible plant-based kebabs and gyros.”
