Two people have been stabbed in Manchester city centre, while a 30-year-old suspect was tasered and detained by police officers.

The incident happened on Market Street near to Primark around 6.20pm causing chaos in the City Centre with Market Street tram stop being closed and bus services affected.

Footage appeared to show a man being pinned to the ground by police officers at Market Street tram stop.

An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News: “A man in his 50s holding a rag to his face went into Tesco Express and bought a three litre bottle of cider all the while bleeding.

“He went to near Ladbrokes where I reckon it happened and the ground was destroyed in little spots of blood.

“A person was on the phone to A&E I presume saying he had been slashed.

“Within 2-3 mins about 7-8 cop cars and ambulances raced down Portland street”

Following the election incident, council officers will be meeting with police today to review the situation around Market Street and Piccadilly Gardens
