Police arrested three men at Smedley Road, Cheetham Hill, as part of a pre-planned operation in the early hours of the morning.

A 22-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

An 18-year-old man from Salford and a 17-year-old girl from Oldham were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

They remain in custody for questioning.

The arrests follow the death of twenty eight year old Callum Steadman, who was hit by a stolen car in Harpurhey while crossing the road on Friday evening

The driver failed to stop at the scene and the car which was  using false plates – was later found abandoned on Clevedon Street in Harpurhey.

Senior Investigating Officer, Sergeant Lee Westhead, said: “We now have three people in custody as a result of this morning’s operation but I want to make it clear that our investigation does not stop here.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for taking an innocent man’s life are brought to justice.

“I would like to continue to appeal to the public to please come forward with any information they may have that could assist our investigation.”
