In 2022 a BBC Panorama investigation revealed a “toxic culture” Centre which has now been renamed Riverside, with allegations of staff humiliating, bullying, and inappropriately restraining patients.

A subsequent investigation led to an independent review, which found that the Greater Manchester Mental Health authority had missed opportunities to address concerns and had a culture of “suppressing bad news”.
