Two men aged 22 and 24 have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in custody for questioning after a robbery in the city centre last night.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was waiting for a bus on Parker Street in Piccadilly at around 10.25pm when he was approached by two unknown men who started a conversation with him that soon turned sinister when they demanded the man’s necklace.

The victim tried to leave the area but was met with punches from the men, amid which his necklace was taken from him.

Chief Inspector Richard Timson of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “This man was simply trying to get home when he was met with a barrage of abuse and violence, all for a necklace.

“Thankfully, he didn’t suffer any serious injuries and has since been reunited with his necklace with the emotional trauma he has been subjected to may take him some time to recover from.

“Our investigation is very much continuing and I want to take this opportunity to ask for any witnesses to contact our team.”
