A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a child.

The arrests in Burnage and Abbey Hey this morning are the 41st and 42nd as part of Operation Green Jacket is the multi-agency operation launched in 2019 focused on offending against vulnerable young people in the South Manchester area in the early 2000s.

Detective Inspector Eleanor Humphreys said:

“These arrests are a result of ongoing work by ourselves and Manchester City Council to identify all those responsible for child sexual exploitation in South Manchester in the early 2000s, so we can pursue long-awaited judicial outcomes for the victims and survivors.

“The victims and survivors are the centre of our investigations – we are working hard to enable them to have trust and confidence in us and the wider criminal justice system, whilst collaborating with specialist partner agencies to build packages of support which are available to them both now and in the future.

“Alongside making arrests, work is ongoing behind the scenes to build evidence-based files to enable the Crown Prosecution Service to authorise charges and ensure suspected offenders face justice. The great care being taken in this is assurance of our commitment to getting it right for those who were harmed.”
