Two people have been arrested after an eight nine year old man died in a fatal collision in Heaton Moor in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Police were called to Errwood Road to reports of a collision involving an Audi RS4 and a Vauxhall Astra just after 1.00am.The Audi RS4 had overturned as a result of the collision and come to a rest on the pavement.An 89-year-old man who was travelling in the Vauxhall Astra was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

A 34-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy who were travelling in the car have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in custody for questioning.

Police Constable Pete Cunningham of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “First and foremost I want to express my sincere condolences to the man’s family, who are being provided with support from specially trained officers at this difficult time.

“We have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident and I would ask that anybody with information contacts the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone that may have dashcam or mobile footage of the incident.”
