Transport Minister Robert Goodwill MP has officially opened six new cycle hubs at Greater Manchester railway stations,
The opening has officially doubled the amount of secure cycle places available across the region.

Mr Goodwill, Parliamentary Secretary of State at the Department for Transport (DfT), gave his support to the new hubs after being joined by the Chair of the Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) Committee, Cllr Andrew Fender, Matthew Worman, Client and Stakeholder Manager for Northern Rail and cycling champion Cllr Chris Paul for a visit to the cycle hub at Hazel Grove railway station.

TfGM has worked with station operator Northern Rail and the DfT to open the new cycle hubs, which are under full cover, with CCTV coverage and swipe card entry.

Northern Rail will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the new hubs at Manchester Oxford Road, Salford Central, Ashton-under-Lyne, Bolton, Eccles and Hazel Grove stations.

The six new hubs offer 400 bike spaces, joining hundreds of spaces already available at existing cycle hubs across the region.
Transport Minister Robert Goodwill said: “The new cycle hubs will transform journeys for cyclists at these six rail stations, offering affordable and secure storage for passengers. As a Cycling City, we are committed to getting more people on their bikes in Manchester with new routes, road improvements and better infrastructure.”

Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, commented: “It’s great to see more and more stations offer cycling facilities so that people can easily make their journey on different kinds of sustainable transport.
