Leader of Trafford Council, Cllr Tom Ross, joined Council colleagues this for a litter pick along the Bridgewater Canal in support of the One Tonne Plastic Challenge

Created by local teenager Thomas Morgan, this campaign encourages everyone in Greater Manchester to collect 1 tonne of plastic waste through litter picking – helping prevent plastic from entering our waterways.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester was contacted last year by Cheshire teenager, Thomas Morgan, challenging the people of Greater Manchester to support the “One Tonne Plastic Challenge”, encouraging the GMCA and local councils and partners to collect 1 tonne of plastic waste through litter picking to stop plastics from entering the waterways.

The clean-up campaign in Greater Manchester launched on 16th July, during Plastic Free July and will run for 10-weeks until Friday 19th September.
