With the rising cost of living and climate change concerns, Manchester Arndale has partnered with Too Good To Go to spread awareness about food waste and promote ways to reduce it.
Globally more than one third of all food produced is wasted, this accounts for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions. In the UK alone, we bin 20 million slices of bread each day…that’s almost 3,000 times the height of the Arndale Tower. We also throw away 3.1 million glasses of milk every single day, which means that every nine days, we waste enough to fill the Manchester Ship Canal
The team from Too Good To Go will be at the Arndale on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 September, where shoppers will be able to speak to food waste experts for tips on reducing food waste in their homes and businesses. Whether it’s how to refresh stale bread, ways to keep individual fruits and vegetables fresh, or making your favourite cheese last longer, the team will be on hand to offer advice on how to make simple changes that will have a big impact.
You’ll find Too Good To Go in Exchange Court on the lower mall next to 10ft tall food structures. So as well as brushing up on food waste advice you can start the weekend off by snapping an unusual selfie next to a giant sack of potatoes or loaf of bread (why not!)
Food isn’t just wasted in the home. Every day, delicious, fresh food goes to waste at cafes, restaurants, hotels, shops and manufacturers – just because it hasn’t sold in time. The Too Good To Go app lets you buy and collect ‘Magic Bags’ of this food – at a great price – so it gets eaten instead of wasted.
