East Lancashire Railway is offering all Elizabeth’s to ride for free in the lead up to their royal celebrations

East Lancashire Railway is offering a unique opportunity in calling all Elizabeth’s to ride for free in the lead up to their royal ‘choo-choo-bilee’ celebrations.

If you’re lucky enough to share a name with the longest reigning monarch then this experience is not to be missed as Elizabeth’s ride for free all along the line.

From the 27th May until the 2nd June people named Elizabeth can ride on all trains and services free of charge; exploring some of the hidden gems along the Irwell Valley including pubs, restaurants and much more.

The heritage railway is opening its doors to Elizabeth’s ahead of its Jubilee bash Friday 3rd – Sunday 5th June, which will feature special performances from the era at every station during the long weekend.

Each station along the line will be celebrating in 1940’s/50’s fashion with food, vintage stalls and music including the Washboard Resonators, the Rum and Cola Girls, Kitty LaMare and the George Formby Appreciation Society.

Guests are encouraged to take part and dress like the decade – and they’ll get the chance to see one-in-a-lifetime flyovers from classic Spitfire and Hurricanes, as well as a special speech commemorating the Jubilee by Mrs Sharman Birtles MBE JP DL, Vice Lord-Lieutenant.

ELR Chairman, Mike Kelly, comments, “This is going to be a truly unforgettable and magical weekend in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

We have a jam packed schedule across the entire weekend from food and drinks from the era to vintage fashion, people will be celebrating all across the country and we’re proud to be bringing the celebrations along the railway from Rawtenstall, through Bury and onto Heywood.

Naturally, we’re delighted to be able to celebrate with Her Majesty The Queen and all those who share the royal name, so we hope this gives old and new visitors the chance to enjoy an unforgettable and unique experience of travelling on the East Lancashire Railway.”
