Three people are in hospital with stab wounds after a group of people were fighting with knives in Piccadilly Gardens.

Two of the men have serious injuries and the third man was taken to hospital with minor injuries. All three men remain there for treatment.

This is believed to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.

Two males – aged 17 and 18 – have been arrested on suspicion of assault. They remain in custody for questioning.

Chief Inspector David Henthorne, Force Critical Incident Manager for GMP, said: “Three men are in hospital as a result of this shocking incident in which a group of men, who were wielding knives engaged in an altercation.

“Although we have two men in custody, our investigation remains very much still ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this altercation. At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“This took place in a busy location and I would like to reassure the public that this is believed to be an isolated incident with no further risk to the wider community. If anyone witnessed this fight, or has any information that could help officers to complete their enquiries, please get in touch with police as soon as possible.”
