Everyone’s favourite little blue engine, Thomas the Tank Engine, is to make its return to the East Lancashire Railway’s tracks from this April.
The Day Out With Thomas sees young engineers and their families board a full-size steam train led by Thomas the Tank Engine, before enjoying a 30-minute trip through the picturesque Irwell valley.
Fans will get the chance to say hello to Sir Topham Hatt, before Thomas takes them on an adventure from Bury to the beautiful Ramsbottom station.
And the fun continues offboard with live entertainment throughout the day, including sing-a-longs with Sodor’s cheeky station sweepers Rusty and Dusty, arts and crafts, and an Imagination Station, where kids can play with their favourite Thomas & Friends toys and books.
Tickets are now available for the experience, which will take place on 30 April, 1-2 May, 6-7 August and 1-2 October.
Let the fun continue across the road at Bury Transport Museum, where your ticket gains you entry to enjoy funfair rides, magicians, balloon modelling and face painting.

As one of our most popular experiences, the Day Out With Thomas events are a key fixture on the ELR’s calendar. Thomas is a much-loved childhood character for people of all generations, so the event always brings as much joy to children as it does to parents and grandparents.
As well as taking a trip through Lancashire on Thomas, visitors will also meet Sodor’s Rusty and Dusty and Sir Topham Hatt and enjoy a host of activities offboard, so the experience will be a fun day out for all the family.”
Advanced tickets are recommended and tickets are priced at £66 for a family of four (two adults and two children) and £44.40 for one adult and two children.
