The Health Secretary Matt Hancock has told MP’s that the Covid “is diminished but not defeated” as he updated the House of Commons this afternoon on the latest developments in the battle against Covid 19

He told the Commons that cases and deaths are back to September levels but that we must remain “cautious”.

“Step-by-step we are returning this country to normal life”, he says, adding that we are on target to meet the Prime Minister’s roadmap out of lockdown.

He also praises the high vaccination uptake in the United Kingdom.

10 million people in the UK have now received two doses of a coronavirus vaccine.”This is another remarkable milestone in our vaccination programme, which has already saved thousands of lives,” Boris Johnson said.

“I want to thank the brilliant staff and volunteers involved in the rollout, and urge all those who are called to keep coming forward.”

Meanwhile India has been added to the red list of countries which will see visitors forced to quarantine in Government approved hotels

103 cases have now been detected in the UK, mostly linked to travel, Hancock said adding that after studying the data and on a “precautionary basis”, India has been added to the coronavirus travel ‘red list’.
