The ‘twangy’ lilt of the Manchester dialect will soon be heard on a Sat Nav

Crowd -sourced sat nav app, Waze, is today launching a ‘Mancunian’ navigation experience as one of four new in-app voice options.

Through this local feature, users will be able to select from four new voice options to help guide them on the road.

As part of this immersive driving experience, users will hear their directions in a new yet oddly familiar way, with phrases such as “Do a U-y, mate… take it easy” and “It’s the third exit for this one, mate”. These voice navigation assistants can also alert users to upcoming hazards, such as “Looks like there’s a crash up ahead. Look after yeself”.

Ru Roberts, UK Country Manager at Waze comments: “We wanted to create a navigation experience that celebrates the UK’s unique regional identities and enables Wazers to feel a little closer to home while out on the roads. By activating our new Mancunian voice, users can personalise their navigation experience and even learn a few new phrases along the way!”
