Historic Salford pub The Black Friar is celebrating its second birthday in August by running a special £22 menu and giving away over £72K worth of scratch card prizes all month.

The Grade II listed pub reopened in 2021 after being lovingly restored, becoming a favourite of both locals and tourists. The team at the independent pub now plans to give back to their loyal guests – hosting a huge giveaway throughout August to celebrate their second anniversary.

During the Black Friar’s birthday month* every visitor will receive a free instant win scratch card with their bill, giving them the chance to win prizes including free meals on the spot, free cocktails, or vouchers giving the winner between £10-£200 off their next visit.

Both drinkers and diners will receive a scratch card each per visit, so are in with a chance to win one of the mega prizes on offer. The total prize value across the month is over a whopping £72,000, with the scratch cards available from 1st August for the whole month.

From 1st August, The Black Friar will also offer a special new birthday menu curated by award-winning Chef Ben Chaplin and his team. Continuing the theme of two, the Birthday Menu will be priced at £22 for 2 courses and will be available all day every Monday, and 12-6pm Tuesday-Friday.

The new menu will feature a delicious selection of summer à la carte dishes and pub grub favourites, such as Pig’s Head Croquette with Curried Apple, Spinach and Seitan Cannelloni, Katsu Chicken Schnitzel, Eton Mess and Lime & Chocolate Tart. Guests can add a third course for just £7.

Neil Burke, Owner and Operator of The Black Friar, said: “We are so excited to celebrate The Black Friar’s second birthday. We can’t wait to see all of our friends, neighbours and loyal guests this August – come to visit us and you’re guaranteed a prize!”

“At the Black Friar, our main focus (other than top quality drinks and grub) is to give back to our local community. We hope that by offering some amazing prizes that our guests will feel the love.”

Alongside the birthday celebrations, The Black Friar will feature live local musicians every Tuesday evening this summer. The award-winning Garden is open every sunny day, whilst the fully covered outdoor Tavern remains open for drinks daily. Guests can also enjoy Happy Hour on weekdays (4-6.30pm**).

The grade II listed pub dates back over 200 years, and was originally known as the School Inn, but burned down. It was renamed the Black Friar when it was rebuilt in 1886. It was open continuously from then until 2001, when it burned down a second time. The building has since been refurbed to include a huge award-winning beer garden and outdoor tavern, cosy pub and grand glass room.
