Manchester’s original, independent Pan Asian restaurant Tampopo turns 25 this year and they are planning a huge celebration

Manchester’s original, independent Pan Asian restaurant Tampopo turns 25 this year. To celebrate this quarter-century milestone they are kicking off a summer of events, offers and rewards for their loyal fanbase, including free curry.

To commence the birthday celebrations in style, Tampopo is hosting a Katsu Curry Giveaway at their Corn Exchange restaurant this month. On Monday 20th June Tampopo will be giving away one of their all-time most popular dishes from the last quarter century… Katsu Curry. One of Japan’s most famous dishes, Tampopo’s version comes as chicken or sweet potato coated in traditional crispy panko breadcrumbs and always with their house curry sauce. On Monday there will be a pop up Katsu station from 12pm for customers to collect their free Katsu Curry.

The free curry give away will also kick off a special anniversary offer of 25% off click and collect at all of Tampopo’s restaurants across Manchester, The Trafford Centre and including their East Street by Tampopo Kiosk. Get 25% off the bill order from Tampopo’s Click & Collect via Tampopo’s website – just use the code TPSummer25 to get 25% off (this offer runs exclusively for click and collect orders and is not available on Deliveroo)! This is available all day every day until September 2022 and includes drinks!

To mark 25 years as one of Manchester’s longest standing independent restaurants, Tampopo will be collaborating with Manchester Food and Drink Festival who also celebrate 25 years this year. Tampopo and MFDF will be launching a special foodie podcast series, chronicling the last 25 years of the Manchester food and drink scene with special guests from the wider hospitality community. The podcast will launch with a big party at MFDF in September, so stay tuned for more details.

Tampopo first opened its doors in 1997 with their original restaurant in Albert Square – the first dining establishment of its kind back in the 90s and which is still one of Manchester’s most popular restaurants today. Twenty five years on, they have four Greater Manchester outlets and East Street by Tampopo in Fitzrovia in London.

As well as iconic dishes, Tampopo has welcomed some iconic diners over the years, including Posh and Becks, Ian Brown and Jason Donovan. Tampopo’s carefully curated and developed South-East Asian inspired menu attracts a whole host of diners, from celebs to students and young professionals alike.

David Fox, founder of Tampopo, said, “I am proud to have been a part of the Manchester dining scene for 25 years – a time which has seen the city’s food and drink community develop almost beyond recognition. I’m happy to have played a small part in the lives of so many loyal customers and team members over the years too –  those moments of happiness when family and friends can share food at our table is truly special. We even have five Tampopo team marriages, and six Tampopo babies including a set of twins! All in all it is the people that have made the last 25 years so special – so, here’s to the next quarter century with them too!”
