Since time immemorial, humans have immigrated from one area to another for various reasons. Whether for prosperity or survival, this ancient activity continues to happen across the globe. In the modern-day, very few countries experience this more than the United Kingdom.

Indeed, a report by The Migration Observatory indicated that the population of the foreign-born population in the UK increased from 5.3 million in 2004 to 9.3 million in 2018. Any migrants wishing to make the UK home need to pass rigorous vetting.

Taking the Life in the UK mock test is highly recommended. This is because, as part of the vetting process, you will need to sit through the “Life in the UK test” and pass to be considered for citizenship.

What Is Life In The UK Test

Any individual seeking to apply for British citizenship or an Indefinite Leave to Remains (ILR) has to sit and pass this test. Commonly referred to as “The British Citizenship Test,” it was introduced to ensure that applicants have a firm understanding of British traditions, laws, beliefs, political systems, and above all, the English language.

The test itself is computer-based and comprises a total of 24 questions. Applicants have 45 minutes to successfully answer most, if not all, of the multiple-choice questions. To be considered having passed the test, candidates must receive an average grade of 75% and above.

This means answering 18 out of the 24 questions correctly. The test results are availed to you as soon as you have completed the test; you will know whether you have passed or failed.

As you can imagine, with so much at stake, undertaking this test can be quite stressful. Hence, early preparation, including taking the Life in the UK mock test, increases the likelihood of passing the test.

Where Is The Test Taken From?

You will need to first register for the test by booking via the official government website. Bookings need to be done three days in advance, and it costs £50 each time you take the test. Over 30 centers spread across the UK from where you can book to take the test.

To book for the test, bring along an accepted form of ID (a valid passport, biometric residence card, valid travel documents with a photo or a biometric residence permit), your email address, and a debit or credit card.

Preparation For The Test

Being ready for the test requires that you start preparing for it in advance. Once you have registered, you will be provided with the official Life in the UK handbook, which is available in various formats, including- audio format, e-Learning subscription, a hard copy book, or eBook.

The book contains most of the information you will be evaluated on. So, going through it at every opportunity will bear you satisfactory results. Additionally, you could opt to undertake the life in the UK mock test before the real test.

As the name suggests, it’s a mock test which features the same number of questions based on the various sections of the Official Life in the UK test revision book.

To make the learning process more exciting, consider joining or forming a group of like-minded applicants. This will help combat the boredom of having to go through the same material over-and-over again.

Also, by coming together, you can aid one another in-case one of you is stuck or doesn’t fully understand certain parts of the book.
