Stockport County’s brand-new wall mural, which pays homage to the fans’ ‘The Scarf My Father Wore’ chant, has finally reached completion.

Marking its official launch on Edgeley’s Castle Street were Hatters’ stars Tanto Olaofe, Myles Hippolyte and Odin Bailey. After admiring the artwork for themselves, the players presented County scarves to the group of local school children who helped create it.

Also in attendance to celebrate this special occasion was Councillor Frankie Singleton (cabinet member for Communities, Culture and Sport), as well as local councillors Matt Wynne, Leah Taylor and Asa Caton. The Club’s Chief Operating Officer, Tom Mahon, also came along to show his support.

This innovative art project was spearheaded by Stockport-based art hub GRIT Studios, local creative group The Writing Squad and Stockport County Community Trust.

Spray paint artist Oskar With A K and poet Ruth Awolola spent the February half-term at Edgeley Park, working with the school children to produce the mural’s distinctive artwork and poetry.

The initiative was enabled through a grant from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

Alison Warwood, County Community Trust CEO commented: ‘We’re so thrilled with the outcome of this wonderful venture. It’s been a team effort from start to finish, thanks to the enthusiasm of our young people and the expertise of Ruth and Oskar.

‘Not only is this mural a lasting tribute to Stockport County Football Club and its loyal supporters, it’s also a striking addition to the local landscape.’
