A statue of Manchester United legend Jimmy Murphy will be unveiled outside the Stretford End of Old Trafford on Wednesday 3 May – 65 years to the day after he led the club to the FA Cup final at Wembley.

The occasion will be compered by Alan Keegan and will feature words from the club and the Murphy family before the statue is unveiled and seen for the first time by United fans.

He famously worked alongside Sir Matt, becoming assistant manager in 1955, and took charge of United on a temporary basis following the Munich tragedy of 1958.

He did not travel to Belgrade,being involved in a Wales World Cup qualifier that week.
