Labour leader Sir Kier Starmer has once again defended his actions over the removal of Labour’s candidate in the Rochdale By election over his Gaza comnents

Starmer told BBC Breakfast that he was the first Labour leader to remove a candidate in a by election when they cannot be replaced saying it was because he was so determined to take decisive action on anti semitism

Questioned about the speed of the decision he said that the move was decisive and done within days describing it as a massive decision for any political leader to make when the candidate could not be replaced

In effect he told the programme we are giving up a Labour seat and it shows that when tough decisions have to be made, he was prepared to do it
