Italian actor Mario Pirovano brings his one man performance of ‘Francis The Holy Jester’ to the former Church and Friary of St Francis in Gorton this Sunday 12th October at 2pm.

Written and directed by Nobel Prize-winning playwright Dario Fo, a long-time friend and collaborator of Pirovano, the play depicts St Francis as an energetic, passionate, sometimes argumentative and always compassionate man.

The play has been toured all over the world and this is the first time it will be performed in Manchester.

St Francis is widely known as the patron Saint of animals, and the story of St Francis and the birds is often as much as anyone hears. This is a new take on the man and his story, offering a new perspective, presented in an engaging and occasionally provocative way.

Elaine Griffiths, Chief Executive of the Monastery said: “It’s really exciting to be hosting a play about our very own Saint Francis and I can’t imagine a better setting than this stunning former Franciscan church. We’re delighted to be part of Mario’s UK tour and look forward to learning more about the man behind the myth.”

Tickets can be bought online at http://www.themonastery.co.uk/St-Francis-Holy-Jester.html or over the phone 0161 223 3211, 9.00 – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday costing £10 per adult and £5 for children and concessions.
